English as an Additional Language (EAL) assists our students to improve their level of English and supports them across all of the curriculum. Our aim is to support these students in their language acquisition and communicative competence so that they are confident in speaking and writing English. Students for whom English is not their first language will receive support in class or with EAL classes to enable them to improve their language skills and be better able to access the English National Curriculum.

EAL teaching fosters an improvement in and enjoyment of English in all four skill areas: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Our teachers have a great deal of experience of helping students improve their English language skills. The language demands on the students learning in English are many and varied and so our EAL programme focus not only on integrated academic skills, but take a content and language integrated approach to ensure pupils are aware of how language works and is used within different subject areas.

As a school, we want to do all that we can to ensure that each student achieves their full potential both academically and socially during their time at the School.
